Emily's Bruised Bumper is the thirtieth and final episode of the fourth season.

Plot

Theodore and George are heading to work when they hear Emily's engine. She's in a happy mood and tells them to follow her. They do, but it's hard to keep up with her seeing as how she's quick and maneuverable. She races around Willy's Island, ships and Bedford buoy. But she doesn't realize her lifeboat had come loose.

Soon they reach the ship, whose name is Clementine. The Dispatcher asked Theodore, George and Emily to bring the ship in. Emily gets their first, and Theodore and George tell her she really is fast and strong and can do anything. Soon they get their towlines on to the ship, and they pull Clementine into the harbour. But Emily is still unaware of her lifeboat.

Soon they reach the container terminal, and Emily gives the order to prepare turning. But as she starts to turn, her lifeboat finally falls into the water. George and Theodore start to push Clementine. As Emily goes to check to see how close Clementine is, she sees her lifeboat floating in front of the dock and has no clue how it got there. So, she charges to her lifeboat and pushes out the other side, so it doesn't get squished. But she doesn't tell Theodore and George to stop docking, and Emily gets struck by Clementine with a loud bang and yells in pain. George and Theodore stop and see what happened. They see Emily behind the ship and wonder if she's ok. She says she's fine and wants to get back to work. But as they go back to docking Clementine, Emily's bumper is badly hurt. So, she suggests she goes to the repair dock.

Emily hadn't return from the repair dock after story time was over. Theodore wonders where she is as the other tugs go to their places and sleep. Later, Emily heads back to the dock very slowly and makes putting noises. And there's a patch on her bumper as well. She waited until the other tugs were asleep because she didn't want them seeing her putting slowly. So, she pokes to her place at the dock and complains she can't do anything like she used to.

The next morning, Emily sees if her bumper was still bruised. It still is as she presses it toward the dock, and yelps in pain. Theodore hears and asks what's wrong, but Emily says nothing is wrong. But during the morning work meeting, the Dispatcher tells Emily to move Barrington barge because of her bruised bumper. Emily can't believe what she just heard. Barrington is the smallest barge in the Big Harbour. And she becomes angry at doing a small job. Once the other tugs left, she putts out of the harbour. Pearl the pilot boat sees Emily and is concerned for her. She tells her to do her job, and head back to the dock right away. But Emily refuses. She doesn't want everyone to see her moving Barrington and making putting noises.

Later, Theodore is passing a cove, when he hears someone whispering his name. Emily is hiding behind some rocks and is trying to get Theodore's attention. She asks him to move Barrington for her. But Theodore tells her it's her job. Emily pleads him to do it for her. Theodore is confused, but he goes to do it. Emily is relieved and refuses to leave the cove until her bumper is healed. But she bumps it into a rock and cries in pain again. She feels like she would have to be there for a long time.

As the sun is setting, Emily isn't around for story time again. Hank wonders why she's not coming for story time. Theodore is wondering the same thing. Emily is still hiding in the cove and is waiting for the other tugs to go to sleep. Then Theodore approaches and asks why she's hiding in the cove or why she didn't wanna move Barrington. She insists she's not and didn't feel like it. But Theodore knows it's because of her bumper. So Emily putts out of the cove and feels embarrassed that she has to move small barges. Theodore likes it, but she feels like everyone will laugh at her. Theodore moves close to her and tells her even if she may only move bell buoys, she's still gonna be Emily the Vigorous, and she'll still be his friend. That makes Emily feel better. Somehow, Theodore's words make the pain in her bumper go away. So she tells him they better head home. Theodore lets Emily lead the way, but she insists on letting him lead the way home. Theodore proposes they go together. And they both head back home into the sunset.
