The Great Harbour
Clean Up Contest

George Buzzes the Dock (originally titled The Great Harbour Clean Up Contest Part 1) is the seventeenth episode of the first season and the 3rd episode pulled from airing.

Plot

Theodore is pulling Barrington Barge around the Big Harbour. He enjoys moving barges because it helps him get his V-Word. And that means he'll leave the harbour and be able to pull ships from around the world. As he passes the sandy beach, he sees a lot of garbage and junk all over it, which puzzles him. As he finishes moving Barrington, he heads back to the Great Ocean Tug and Salvage Company Dock, which happens to be his favorite place, because it's a great place to be with his friends. As he returns, he sees Emily and wants to tell her he moved a barge. Emily often tells him the things he needs to know about being a V-Tug. But she's sad and tells him the children aren't coming to the sandy beach anymore. The tugboats usually love seeing the children swim in the water and build sandcastles. Theodore now knows why there's garbage there. Then Hank returns after pushing a garbage barge and starts making funny noises. Then for some reason, he goes out of control. Emily tells him to shut off his engine, and he does so. Emily and Theodore can see there's seaweed and garbage tangled in his propeller. Hank doesn't know how they got there until Emily explains about the sandy beach. He quickly realizes that pollution is the problem. Foduck arrives and explains that pollution is something that makes a big mess, a loud sound, and a bad smell. Then they hear a loud buzzing sound. It was George returning to the dock. He passes the others very quickly and buzzes the dock, whose name is Donald, and frightens him. It even makes smoke billow all over the place, and the tugs cough in it. Then they even put the blame on George and think he's the one making pollution.

Next day, Theodore is taking Barrington back to his dock, when he stops near the sandy beach. He thinks about the garbage there and wonders if that's pollution. Suddenly he hears Foduck's radar and tells him he's making noises, and it causes pollution. But Foduck comments that he's leaking oil in the water. And Theodore sees he's leaving trail to his surprise. Then Hank pops up without his two front bumpers. He explains that they fell off as they were crumbly, and he tosses them at the cove. That upsets Theodore and Foduck because he's being a big pollution maker.

As the sunsets, the tugboats' horns can be heard across the harbour. They argue about what pollution is worse. Then George and Emily return to the dock after moving an oil tanker, and George buzzes Donald again. Emily tells him to stop showing off, but George comments that she leaves her engine running when she's not working. Then they all keep arguing and blast their horns across the harbour. The Dispatcher tells them to stop making noise, as their disturbing the harbour. He even says that if George and Emily keep making noise, then their ocean-going trips would be given to someone else. And even says that Theodore could do it, as he has been doing a good job pulling barges. Theodore is stunned. He can't believe what the Dispatcher just said. So, the tugboats go to sleep, but he stays up looking out on the ocean.

That night, the tugs can't sleep as they have been thinking about what the Dispatcher said. Emily is upset with George and doesn't want to work with him anymore. George is worried that the Dispatcher would take away his V-Word and give it to someone else. Theodore is thinking about what the Dispatcher just said, and about him leaking oil, Hank's bumpers, Emily's smoke, George's buzzing and Foduck's radio. Then Theodore has an idea, and he toots his horn with excitement. But Foduck tells him to be quiet. Theodore suggests it should wait until tomorrow. But thinks about helping his friends or becoming a V-Tug.

The next day, Theodore finishes his work and returns to the dock. The tugs are still quarreling about who was making the most pollution. George also returns, but this time, he doesn't buzz Donald Dock. He's too worried about losing his V-Word. Theodore is thinking about how to make everyone friends again. But that would mean he would lose his chance of being a V-Tug. Then he breaks the silence and talks about the pollution the tugs are making. They all know they're making it, and Foduck and Hank agrees that pollution comes from everywhere. Emily points out that George didn't buzz the dock this time, and he doesn't have to. They agree they have to stop making pollution. Then Theodore suggests they have a harbour clean up contest. Hank also adds the word Great to it. But George isn't so sure. Emily says if they do it, then George is already ahead. Now George is smiling, and thinks the contest is a good idea. And they all gather around and discuss on what they can do to make the Big Harbour in the contest. And Theodore smiles. He knows he made a good choice. And The Great Ocean Tug and Salvage Company Dock was once again his favorite place to be, as everyone is friends again.
