Plot

George is seen going around in circles worrying about something when Theodore shows up and asks if they can practice turning backwards. But George isn't listening. So, Thedore blasts his horn, and that got George's attention. He tries asking again if they can practice turning backwards, but George isn't interested as he as too much on his mind. Theodore is disappointed but says there's always tomorrow. George freaks out after hearing that word and doesn't want to hear it again. And goes away mumbling about what's to come tomorrow, leaving Theodore confused. So, he goes to see Foduck about what's going to happen tomorrow. Though he makes a joke about it at first, he tells Theodore that George has to have his yearly hull checkup. A hull checkup is when a tugboat's hull gets rusty and if there are holes, then they get filled so they don't get a leak. So, Theodore goes to look for George.

He looks around Willy's Island, then the Great Ocean dock, but George is nowhere to be seen. Until he sees George at Dock Number 9, which is also known as the scrapyard dock, where no one really goes to anymore. George sees a rusty barge full of junk and decides to hide into it. But as he inches himself further in, the barge presses against him and he gets stuck. George tries to call for help, but no one knows he's there. Except Theodore. And he pulls George free. He then asks him why he's hiding there. But George says it's a secret and makes Theodore promise he won't tell anyone else. And tells him he has to have his hull checkup. Theodore already knows, but George says he doesn't like it when they fill his holes for rust, it scrapes him, and it hurts. So, he makes a plan to hide behind the junk barge so no one can find him. And Theodore can't tell anyone where he is, and that no true-blue friend ever tells a secret. Even though Theodore has promised to keep George's secret, he thinks this is a really bad idea.

Next day, Emily and Pearl ask Theodore and Foduck if they have seen George, as his time for his hull checkup had come. Theodore lies to them both and says he hasn't. He feels uncomfortable, but a promise is a promise. Meanwhile, Pearl leads Theodore, Emily and Foduck to a cove to move Kamel the deceased cable ship to Dock Number 9. Theodore knows that's where George is hiding and makes up an excuse saying the dock is full. But Emily says that's what the Dispatcher wants the tugs to do. Foduck sees he's worried and thinks he's worried about Kamel. He reassures him that Kamel is only scrap now and it wouldn't matter if the dead cable ship is squished. But Theodore knows it's George who's going to get squished.

When they arrive, George has gotten himself hidden behind the junk barge. Theodore asks Emily if keeping a friend's secret is important. And she says yes. But then he asks if that friend would be in trouble because they kept said secret. Emily tells him that's different and says that someone would have to make a choice. Either keeping their friend's secret or their safety. Pearl orders the tugs to push which startles Theodore. He knows George is hiding behind the junk barge and he'll get crushed. So, he secretly pulls, But Pearl notices and orders him to push. Now the intensity is really getting to Theodore. Foduck and Emily push Kamel as hard as they can. But they also push the junk barge too. George sees this and can feel himself getting squished. Theodore can't take it anymore and shouts that George is hiding behind the junk barge. Emily and Foduck stop pushing and George emerges from behind the barge. Theodore apologizes for not keeping his secret, but it doesn't matter to George anymore and tells him he did the right thing. And tells his friends that he's afraid to go to his hull checkup. Theodore tells him if he wants, they can all go with him. But George leaves his friends, making them wonder what he's going to do.

Theodore, Emily and Foduck go to the marine yards to see if George had his hull checkup. Then they hear George yelping out loud behind a ship. They go around the ship and see George having his checkup. And the scraping doesn't hurt as he thought it did. It actually tickles. He's enjoying himself until he sees his friends looking at him. Then quickly goes back to his serious nature insisting they all have to stay ship shape. And they laugh and toot their horns. Especially George the VALIANT.
